Hair today, gone tomorrow

Everyone knows it
New mom = short hair
It seems inevitable

Why does your new status as a mom mean you exchange your once flowing locks for a short "mom" cut. Long hair and motherhood appear to be mutually exclusive.  After 4 months of mommy-ness, I've discovered the answer...

Your hair falls out and keeps falling out!

I'm not sure if everyone has the same experience as me but I can tell you my hair has never been so sad. Morning, noon and night my hair sheds constantly. The guilty party in all of this is estrogen.  During pregnancy, estrogen, which promotes growth, surges to an all time high.  After delivery, estrogen drops and so does the hair. *tears* By the time your baby is 1, your hair should be back to normal.

To add insult to injury, babies love to grab and are experts at finding any stray hairs within their reach. Several times I've found long blonde hairs gripped tightly in Maddy's little fists and anything in her hands is trouble. As my scheduled hair cut approaches, I contemplate what I should do.  Go short or ride out the hair loss? Whatever the case, next time you see a new mom with short hair, don't judge!
